Our History

The Bicycle Doctor Nordic Ski shop started out as a repair business in a Delafield garage over thirty years ago.

Tom "the Doc" Klein had realized the difference in performance from a good position versus bad position on the bike while riding with some of the most competitive cyclists in the area. He has passionately applied that knowledge to educate customers on the importance of correct fit and function. Brad Dettman, who is affectionately called Doc II as the current owner of The Bicycle Doctor, has this same passion for excellence.

Over the years, the Bicycle Doctor has built a reputation for selling bikes, skis, or other product that is a perfect fit for the customer and its intended use.

The Bicycle Doctor is just what you imagine a community bicycle and ski shop to be -- friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Ask staff about favorite bike routes or what trails we have been skiing. Our mechanics can give your bike a quick fix or a full tune-up. Stop by our trail-side bar for a great selection of micro brews and refueling energy drinks. You can find us having happy hour after many of the group rides hosted by the store.

Read about what our customers have to say - you don't need to hear it from us!

The Bicycle Doctor is located along the Glacial Drumlin state trail, just a short 30 minute drive from Milwaukee, 45 mins from Madison, and 15 minutes from Waukesha.

Who is the Doc?

Tom Klein, the founder of Bicycle Doctor, fondly known as “The Doc” is not only a doctor of bicycles but also a great teacher.

During my first season as an employee at Bicycle Doctor, Doc began my course in ski equipment by explaining the first, most basic skate ski by Fischer and slowly working his way through the ski line-up. I learned terms like “camber” and the nuances of stiff and soft skis. He patiently explained what sets certain models of skis of competing brands apart from each other.

Then, story time really began. We might as well have pulled up chairs by the fire and cracked a beer - I was so curious about Doc’s history on skis! Settle in a comfy chair with your favorite beverage and enjoy.
